Kabir Helminski is a Shaikh of the Mevlevi Order of Sufis, which traces its inspiration to Jelaluddin Rumi. He now focuses on Sufi music, writing, teaching, and developing a program of spiritual education with an international team of scholars.
You can tell the quality of someone’s heart by voice & presence sometimes. You can definitely pick up on Kabir’s aspect in this illuminating interview. He dropped a number of gems, but the one that stood out for me was this one:
“In the remembrance of God, hearts find tranquility….What if it’s in our natural state to have an awakened heart & that through our miseducation, through the ignorance prevailing in our society which has become overly mental, overly utilitarian, overly egotistical, the heart is denied. The experience of the heart is devalued, it’s not encouraged. We are crippled…our hearts are crippled by the prevailing values & the false reality that surrounds us…a reality created by & for egos. The education of the heart needs to be reintroduced to awaken us….”
Let’s reflect on these wise words & spread more love in this benighted world.
