Great interview of St. Lucian Nobel poet, Derek Walcott, widely acknowledged as the greatest living English-language poet. I like the response he gave at the 11:47 mark to the question (to paraphrase), “How does St Lucia produce such high quality intellectuals?” Being educated in St Lucia and having attended the same high school Derek Walcott went to, I quickly identified with his observations. The academic life is of utmost importance to Caribbean folk, right next to family and religion. Mr Walcott has much to teach us –  absorb!!!
